I’m obsessed with tempeh. I find it horrifying and satisfying, alternately.
I think about ways to change its awful leftover tongue taste, like a bad ex-boyfriend.
My latest iteration: gyro tuh-zee-kee salad
- 1/2 tempeh log, sliced laterally and marinated in tahini, a minced garlic clove, lemon squeeze, salt and pepper, 1 hour
- 4 romaine leaves
- 1/2 small purple onion
- 4 grape tomatoes
- salt and pepper + garlic, minced
- cilantro garnish
Heat grill pan until warm and brush with olive oil and minced garlic.
Saute sliced tempeh 3 minutes each side; pour leftover marinade over top.
Taste. Cringe. Taste. Smile.
